This is my favorite warbler. And this is the story of how I found him.

I spotted the female first — flitting up and down in a dense bush, restless and quick, the way warblers always are. I watched and waited. And then the male appeared.

Black and blazing orange, singing with his whole body tilted toward the sky. I knew exactly what I was looking at.

It might be my most exciting birding memory. The moment you identify a bird for the first time on your own — no one pointing it out, no prompt, just you and your eyes and the sudden recognition — is a feeling that doesn't go away. The American Redstart gave me that.
This one is personal. I hope it brings a little of that feeling to your wall.
