There are raptors that command respect. And then there is the Swallow-Tailed Kite, which commands something closer to wonder.

It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't seen one. The wingspan, the deeply forked tail, the effortless way it moves through the air — precise and unhurried at the same time, like it has never once questioned its place in the sky. For a bird of prey, it carries an almost impossible gracefulness.

When I went to draw it, I knew immediately it needed to be in flight. Nothing else would do. That long forked tail trailing behind it, wings spread wide against an open sky — this is a bird that was made to be seen moving.

Created as part of the April Birds Challenge 2026. Printed on a 10x10 canvas with fade-resistant inks, hand-stretched over solid wood stretcher bars. Ready to hang.
